In 1977, the Dargaville Production Stockcar Club Incorporated emerged, finding its initial home in Te Kopuru near Dargaville, along the scenic Pouto peninsula.
The racing track has undergone major changes since 1977 when it was just a swampy paddock surrounded by maize fields. The track is now a small clay oval approximately 400 metres long with 12 metre wide corners and 10 metre wide straights. Today, the Finlayson Park Raceway stands as a testament to the club's dedication and progress.
In the late 1990s and early 2000s. The lease on the land that housed the track hung in the balance, casting uncertainty over the club's future. Faced with this threat, the members rallied together, exhibiting true resilience and unity. In early 2000, an agreement was reached with the Council, allowing the Dargaville Production Stockcar Club to purchase the land outright. The land then became known as Finlayson Park Raceway, owned by the Dargaville Production Stockcar Club Inc. This made it the first Northland dirt track to own its own land.
With unwavering determination, the club had transformed a simple paddock into a thrilling motorsport destination, ready to captivate racing enthusiasts from near and far. Today, the Dargaville Production Stockcar Club's journey stands as a shining example of what can be achieved through passion, perseverance, and the pursuit of dreams.
